Frances Trego Montgomery (1858-1925) was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and lived in Chicago most of her life. She was a well known author of children’s books, most notably the Billy Whiskers series. The artist, Nellie M. Pairpoint (1866-1934), was born in England and at the age of seven, immigrated to the United States with her parents. Her father, Thomas J. Pairpoint, was a prominent silver designer and the founder of Pairpoint Manufacturing in New Bedford, Massachusetts. In additional to her professional art she also taught drawing and painting and was a longtime resident of Providence, Rhode Island.
