Adlai’s grandfather, Adlai Stevenson I was Vice-President under President Glover Cleveland and Adlai’s father loved politics and it seemed that he was continuously involved in one aspect of politics or another. Adlai, himself, was the 31st Governor of Illinois from 1949 to 1953, and received the Democratic Party’s nomination for president in the 1952 and 1956 elections. One-page genealogical chart.
