Shakespeare’s England
William Winter
$10.00

This series of essays by the Gloucester, Massachusetts-born art and literary critic, William Winter  is based on various articles he wrote about the literary and cultural sites of London, Oxford, Ireland and Stratford -upon-Avon seen during two trips taken in 1877 and 1882. The second trip coincided with the then newly reopened Globe Theatre Shakespeare Memorial at Stratford upon Avon.

William Winter ( 1836-1917) attended Harvard Law. He wrote for many periodicals of the day and was a supporter of the literary careers of Walt Whitman and Mark Twain, among others. In addition to being a poet, he had friends in the world of the stage, writing biographies of a number of contemporary actors.
